Part five - more about mesh bodies

Image
So I now had my lovely Lara mesh body, which matched up quite well with my system head. Leading up to this point I had begun to buy clothing which fitted both system bodies and mesh bodies, and so my next job was to rummage through my Inventory and sift all the items into those which would fit my new body and those which would not. I also went shopping with fresh eyes, both in the Marketplace and in store. This was a new experience, and the choice of shoes is much larger for Mesh/Bento feet!!!  The Lara HUD has three heel settings, but my default setting is high!!!  In SL I can wear heels all the time without discomfort! I took this photo the day after I bought my mesh body. The bikini is Maitreya. My next job was to learn about the body HUD. There are three tabs. The first tab is the Alpha tab, which allows sections of the body to be hidden. This is especially useful with tight clothes, where occasionally bits of body poke through the fabric. There is a quick r...

Part four - understanding mesh

It was going well so far. I knew that I didn't know very much about Second Life, but I was having fun, and enjoying the social side of things very much. A couple of NCI 'officers' took me shopping in-world to stores/malls. They were very helpful to me. I didn't realise until that point that there was an alternative to the Marketplace . Some items are only available in store, and so the range of goods available expands if you chose to visit the shopping malls.  I didn't need any encouragement and visiting the malls became my number one activity for a while. Doing this is similar to exploring in-world, but the malls can be much busier, and as they are packed full of merchandise, are sometimes very slow to rezz , and very laggy.   So patience may be needed. I found that I was still engaging in local chat and IM's in the Malls, and was also chatted-up by a few guys along the way. Buying direct like this is either by a left click, or a right click over the item. L...

Part three - my story continues.

Part three: So after a few days experimentation, I was happy with my Avi, and my look. I continued to look at the marketplace and I continued to buy a few items, but for now I was happy to explore and to chat to people when I could.  I explored beauty spots, beaches, and clubs. I discovered that for the first 30 days I couldn't teleport to Adult sims. Almost from day 1, I was being hit on by guys.I hadn't reckoned on this aspect of SL, but I should have done!!  Most guys were reasonable enough, but some asked for sex in the first sentence! I didn't come into SL to have sex, and I made that clear, but in some cases I think I used too many words, when 'no chance' (or similar) would have sufficed. The hits seemed to come in waves, often two or three in a session, but then sometimes none for a few days. Very occasionally I got a message, other than "Hi" from a guy who was actually quite nice, and where I agreed to continue the conversation, these develope...

Part two - My journey continues - the first days

Image
In my first two days in SL, I also explored the home pages, which are extensive, and time consuming to explore and understand! Towards the end of the second day, I found the Marketplace . It was this which tipped me into Second Life, willingly I might add! I spent the next couple of days exploring the Marketplace in detail. I started to understand the terms involved, and that my system Avatar was not mesh. I therefore looked closely at the clothes and shoes, in order to see which I might buy. But before I did that, I needed some L$ (Linden Dollars). There is an exchange rate when buying L$ using either US$ or GB£ via Paypal .  At the time of writing (August 2018) the exchange rate is that L$2,500 costs US$ 11.46, which includes a small transaction fee. L$2,500 can go a long way in the Marketplace if you shop around. If cash is tight there are lots of bargains to be had. I also learned that where a demo is available for a particular item, it should be tried first. Demo's are nor...

In the beginning!

I joined Second Life on 3rd May 2018. How did this happen? I often wonder myself. I have never gamed before, and my computer time, after doing all the usual domestic stuff, was spent surfing YouTube, E-Bay, and shopping sites (obviously). After a while it gets a bit boring! I needed something more interactive, and idly wondered if there was a virtual reality site, where I could build and dress an avatar, go shopping and dancing, and generally hang out with people and chat. A search provided Second Life as the main hit. I'd never heard of it! Anyway, I had a look at the home page. It all looked quite innocent enough and easy to make a start, and didn't cost anything...........(more about this later haha!). There are a number of system avatars to chose, from a simple "girl next door" to some quite interesting fantasy figures. I chose the girl next door look for obvious reasons! I first materialised at New Citizens Incorporated (KUULA) which is a newbie friendly lo...
